The Adirondack Queer Ice Festival is back for our 5th year. Whether you want to try ice climbing for the first time, hone your technique, or just meet adventurous queer people, this festival has something for everyone.  Adirondack Queer Ice Fest is an LGBTQ+ affinity space where you can challenge yourself climbing frozen waterfalls in the Keene Valley region. This festival is all about celebrating diversity, love, and acceptance. Strap on some crampons, pick up some ice tools and join us in the beautiful winter mountains of the Adirondacks.We are so excited to announce that this year we will be adding a second day of activities. On Sunday with the help of our community partners we will have meet up groups that will go out and enjoy some winter fun. We are still working on the specifics of what will be offered.Due to the very high demand for our festival we will be changing our registration to a lottery method this year. We have been so honored to have so much interest in our festival but we are a small group of volunteers organizing it all and have decided that this is the most equitable way to work with our interested participants. To register for the lottery please submit your name here. Lottery registration will be open from noon on December 14th to noon on the 21st. Afterward we will notify the winners. We seek to expand our community and increase queer representation in ice climbing and the outdoors. We understand that such pursuits can be expensive and therefore have partnered with donors and sponsors to reduce the cost. Everyone is welcome to try this exhilarating sport!This is a free event but we also understand that the logistics of attending still have a cost. We offer scholarship grants to help individuals with a financial need to offset the cost of travel, lodging, and time away from home. At each site volunteers will set up top rope climbs for the group. All volunteers are members of the LGBTQ+ community and have experience in climbing and anchor building but are not professional guides. Coming to the event with belay experience is helpful but not required.
