This workshop is for writers who are already ready, are ready, or want to be ready to send their poetry to journals. In this interactive workshop we will: 1) review why we might want to submit poems for publication; 2) determine how to assess whether a poem is ready for submission; 3) explore the world of poetry anthologies, journals and related projects and figure out where your poems might fit; and then, 4) apply these findings to 2-3 of your own poems in class. Please bring 4-5 poems to work with. Please also bring a laptop or tablet, or be prepared to use your phone for a few internet search exercises.

Kearney native Bruce E. Whitacre has written two poetry books, "Good Housekeeping" and "The Elk in the Glade: The World of Pioneer and Painter Jennie Hicks," which were both BookLife Editors' Picks. His translation of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s essay, “Notes on Nights,” appeared in Cineaste magazine. He has been published in over 40 journals and anthologies. He has previously led workshops on memoir and writing craft at the Kearney Public Library. He currently lives in Ireland after having retired from work in New York theatre.
