On behalf of the Palmridge Community Forum, a non-affiliated, community-led organization, we extend this official invitation to Community and leadership to participate in our upcoming peaceful community march scheduled for Thursday, 22 May 2025, starting at 08h00. Details of the March: Date: Thursday, 22 May 2025 Time: 08h00 Start Point: End of Namhlanje Street (between Riverside and Tsietsi Phase 4, same street as Tsietsi Clinic) End Point: Katlehong CCC2 Purpose: Demand for electrification of Tsietsi Phase 5 and 6 Call for development and infrastructure support for the same areas The march will be conducted peacefully and will be escorted by Metro Police. All political parties and stakeholders are welcome to participate, wearing their party regalia and carrying their own placards. The community of Tsietsi Phase 5 and 6 is currently in crisis. Due to the lack of formal electrification, residents are forced to resort to illegal electricity connections (commonly known as Izinyoka). These unsafe and dangerous connections have already claimed the lives of several community members—although we do not have official statistics, these tragic incidents are known in the community. Furthermore, there is a growing concern that some individuals are now renting out illegal electricity at a fee, forcing poor families to pay monthly to access a basic service that should be legally and safely provided by the municipality. Despite promises made in December 2024 by the MMC of Energy, Mr. Mzaifane Ngwenya, and Ward 61 Councillor, Mr. Sanele Ngubane, the electrification has not been delivered. These promises have proven empty, and the community has been left in the dark—both literally and figuratively. According to the Integrated Development Plan (IDP), there is a budget allocated yearly for this development, yet there is no visible implementation or accountability. As a party committed to social justice and community development, we believe your presence will strengthen our call for action and show support for the people of Tsietsi who are being failed by the system.
