BIRGEJUPMI THROUGH ART & DUODJI
Guovdageaidnu, Sápmi April 8 – 10, 2026
This final seminar part of Work Package 9: Birgejupmi Through Art & Duodji explores Indigenous art and duodji as powerful tools for resilience, healing, and political expression, while reinforcing deep rooted connections between communities, land, and water. The aim is to share knowledge, foster dialogue, and develop new methodologies rooted in Indigenous worldviews and ways of knowing.
Within the conceptual framework of birgejupmi – the Sámi understanding of survival, sustenance, and wellbeing, the seminar focuses on three core areas: KNOWLEDGE, COOPERATION AND RESILIENCE.
The seminar is developed in collaboration with Sámi Allaskuvla, and provides a shared space for reflecting on how existing artistic practices, artist-led initiatives, and established structures can be further strengthened and developed. In dialogue with artists, duojár, and knowledge holders, the seminar explores how interdisciplinary, art-based methodologies can be articulated and carried forward across artistic, academic, and community-based contexts.
Together with our artistic partners and collaborations partners, we welcome and invite national and international participants into a shared space where the voice of the artist is at the center of the conversation that shaping both policy and practice.
