1st International Conference on Sustainable Mineral Resource Dev
Minerals in the environment and their products produced are all around us & we are using in our daily life. These minerals have a phenomenal impact on our way of life & health. Minerals are critical for the economy of the nation. It is important to know, where the mineral resources come in future is the key to sustainable development & security of a Nation.“Underdevelopment” and “development” of any country is generally related to access to the natural mineral resources. But with the advances in technology and growth of an economy, the relative importance of natural resources tends to decline. The existence of rich resources is not an adequate condition for the developed industry, but it helps. Many countries don’t have mineral resources & dependent on imported ores. They have shown that by improving & adopting the technology, a strong industrial base can be initiated. Deficiency of resources can be compensated by adopting advanced technology in better recovery from crude form & value-added product recovery
Mineral processing is of paramount importance; the way we live our lives. The demand for metals & other minerals is increasing day by day as the world economies are growing. These minerals constitute valuable raw materials for many basic industries and 80% of the industry is dependent on these known minerals. Mineral resources are one of the major assets of the country around the globe. The resource itself may not be much of the value until it is exploited & utilized efficiently. It is only possible when expertise in the specific fields & latest technology may be employed in a sustainable manner. In this context, research is being conducted by the professionals, scientists & engineers to develop the processes that need fewer resources & in a sustainable way in the field of mineral processing.
Mehran University of Engineering & Technology being leading engineering university is taking another giant leap to organize SMRDU’18 under HEC-BC Knowledge Economy Partnership with Manchester University, UK (birthplace of Chemical Engineering) in the important area of global interest. It will provide an umbrella to the interdisciplinary scholars from around the world in the field of Chemical, metallurgical, mining, materials, environmental, civil, geological engineering in addition to chemistry, geology & other scientific community involved in the mineral processing & utilization research & development to contribute & share their research findings in the broader areas of clay, metal & energy minerals.
