Participants must complete 2 -hours of self paced prework on-line prior to the In-Person Instructor led portion hosted at Beacon Mental Health in Kansas City, MO.*Note: After registering here, you will receive an email with in 72 hours with an invitation to join our MHFA Connect group on the MHFA platform where your pre-work can be found. Setting up this MHFA Connect account and completeing pre-work is essential to participate in the instructor-led portion of this training.The Instructor-Led portion of this course is about 6.5 hours with built in lunch and breaks. This portion of the course is a small group-interactive training. Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use challenges. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to a young person who may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge and help connect them to the appropriate care.The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:Assess for risk of suicide or harmListen non-judgmentallyGive reassurance and informationEncourage appropriate professional helpEncourage self-help and other support strategiesThis course is only open to participants who live or work in Missouri. The course is valued at $170 per person but is being offered to you at no cost by Missouri's Department of Mental Health.The course requires advanced registration.Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid courses have a significant amount of overlapping content.
