Sara Swenson is a Kansas City-based singer-songwriter known for looking life square in the eye with her emotionally-resonant and lyrically-rich songs. With a voice that invites and disarms, she crafts music that feels both incredibly personal and universally understood.
Drawing from folk, Americana, and acoustic pop influences, her music evokes comparisons to artists like Kathleen Edwards, Madi Diaz, Joni Mitchell, and Sara Bareilles, but her voice—in every sense—is unmistakably her own.
Sara is joined on stage by two extraordinary guitar players: local legend John Flynn (lead guitarist in Summer Breeze and the Christena Graves Band) and Tyler Chiarelli (current lead guitarist for The Ghost Hounds, former lead guitarist for Florida Georgia Line). Together, they create a magical and memorable performance.
This fall, Sara is releasing three singles in advance of her upcoming album, where she not only dwells in the complexities of love, loss and longing, but she also explores the lifeline found in community; the emotional damage left behind by manipulative and harmful characters; and the freedom, hope, and regret we all cling to and release. Themes of transformation, nostalgia, and quiet rebellion are sewn into every song. The full album is expected to be released early next year.
In her previous work, Sara’s songs have been featured on ABC’s Private Practice, CW’s Reign, CBC’s Hello Goodbye, and in PBS’s 2023 national series Girl Unscripted. Her track “I Won’t Let You Feel Alone” is the centerpiece of Children’s Mercy Hospital’s 2023–2025 regional campaign. With several albums, EPs and singles to her name, she’s performed alongside artists like Gregory Alan Isakov, Jakob Dylan, and Katie Herzig, and has twice been named Singer-Songwriter of the Year in Kansas City.
