Rob Scheps Returns to KC
Renowned touring musician Rob Scheps returns to KC this August and September. Scheps performs Saturday, August 30, 8:30-10:30 pm at Corvino (1830 Walnut KCMO) as part of Roger Wilder Trio featuring Rob Scheps (tenor and soprano saxophone and flute) and Sam Copeland (bass). Wilder and Copeland are KC staples.
Scheps said, “Roger (Wilder) and I have been playing with each other since we were teenagers at the Eastman School in Rochester.”
Scheps spoke of Copeland glowingly, as well: “He’s very good, one of the best bassists in Kansas City.”
A jazz luminary, Rob Scheps has performed with legends such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Buddy Rich, Gil Evans, and John Abercrombie.
Scheps has been touring in California and is looking forward to making his way to KC in late August and much of September.
Scheps spoke of his September show in KC: "I have another gig, Sunday, Sept. 21, at Westport Coffeehouse, 6 pm-8:30 pm, ‘The Brad Gregory Sextet Plays the Music of Rob Scheps’…We’ll be playing all my music that night, including tunes from my recent project, ‘Jazz and Soul Portraits.’ We’ll also be dedicating music to John Coltrane and Frank Foster. They share a birthday, September 23, the equinox.”
