Navigating Careers in Tech: Now What?

Kansas City Women in Tech and H&R Block are so excited to bring you our summer career series — Navigating Careers in Tech! This series of events centers on panel discussions that will inform and empower those who attend to create a thriving career in technology. Each panel will cover a different stage in one’s career — from just starting out seeking new opportunities, to positioning yourself to where you want to be, to knowing what to expect when leaving your role (to hopefully retiring on a beach somewhere…)

In addition to our panel discussions, we’ll be hosting some hands-on workshops and events to beef up your career tool box. Our events are for people of all skill levels, age groups, and positions, so bring everyone you know!

In part two of our Summer Career Panel Series — Now What? — we’ll dive into what to expect once you're in the door and how to position yourself for continued growth, advancement, and purpose in the industry. From effective mentorship to staying ahead in your skills, our panelists will unpack what they’ve learned across years in the field.

We’ll cover:

• How to find and build relationships with valuable mentors
• What a “day in the life” really looks like for tech professionals in different roles
• Techniques for tracking your impact
• How to have meaningful 1:1s with your manager
• Ways to overcome discouragement and avoid feeling stuck
• Keeping your skills sharp through conferences, learning, and networking

Whether you’re just beginning your career, a mid-level professional looking to level up and avoid stagnation, or trying to step into effective people management, join us for real talk, practical tips, and an inspiring discussion on what it takes to grow and evolve in your tech career.

Signups for all of our career series panel discussions at H&R Block will close 48 hours before the event, so be sure to sign up asap!
