Current Perspectives: Ben Gould (‘15 Painting)

Join us for a powerful lecture by KCAI alum Ben Gould (‘15 Painting), whose interdisciplinary practice explores the relationship between health, disability, and material transformation. Through performance, sculpture, and site-specific installations, Gould examines care as both a personal and structural force—shaped by energy, support systems, and the body’s capacity to adapt. His work challenges physical limitations and societal norms, constructing new narratives rooted in collaboration, material origin, and lived experience.

About the artist:

Ben Gould is an artist whose practice is shaped by evolving experiences of health and disability, including a diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome and thyroid cancer. He uses the body as both source and framework for exploring energy systems, material ecologies, and modes of care. His work spans performance, sculpture, and film, drawing from physical training, medical history, and environmental processes to explore how energy moves through people, landscapes, and the built world.

Gould has exhibited and performed widely, including at Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Watermill Center (NY), Wave Hill (Bronx), and Bradley Ertaskiran (Montréal). He is a NYFA Fellow, Lighton International Artists Exchange recipient, and former Ox-Bow Fellow. Gould lives in New York and works in Peekskill, NY.
