Thirty years of reggae, rock, blues, and jazz gigs later, he made his first album as a leader: Baobab, released in March 2023, six originals cut in a single day at Weights and Measures Sound Lab. He was 51. Plastic Sax opened its review: "Alan Voss recognizes that louder isn't better," and placed him in the line of Kansas City guitarist Steve Cardenas for the same reason.Between his own dates he plays in the Second Nature Ensemble and teaches privately.
