Bi-annually, thousands of Golden Eagles follow an ancient flyway through Alberta's front ranges—a route that has been used for more than 11,000 years as these magnificent raptors travel between their northern breeding grounds and southern wintering habitats.Join The Path Less Taken for a fascinating exploration of one of North America's greatest wildlife spectacles. As we walk along the banks of the Kananaskis River and enjoy a snack beside the picturesque Troll Falls, you'll discover the incredible adaptations, behaviours, and conservation stories of these powerful birds of prey.We'll also visit the counting station operated by the , where we'll try to spot migrating eagles and learn about one of Alberta's most inspiring citizen science initiatives. With a little luck, we may witness these aerial giants soaring overhead on their epic journey.Location & LogisticsThis excursion takes place on the Troll Falls and Hay Meadow Trail System near Nakiska and the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge. The route is a gentle 3.5 km loop with approximately 60 metres of elevation gain.Designed specifically for Educators, this 3-hour experience (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM) offers an opportunity to connect with fellow teachers, deepen your connection to the local landscape, and gather fresh ideas for bringing nature-based learning into your classroom.
