Romantic Cathedral
Award winning, Ukrainian born pianist Anna Shelest, known as a champion of women composers, is featured in two exciting works for piano and orchestra by historically significant women composers. Clara Schumann’s only Piano Concerto, Piano Concerto in A minor, is testament to her considerable talent as a composer and virtuoso pianist. The work is steeped in the Romantic tradition with lush harmonies and longing melodies. Chaminade’s exciting work Konzertstucke for Piano and Orchestra is brilliant in orchestral color and pianistic technique. Brahms’ symphonic masterpiece, Symphony No. 3 in F Major (sometimes considered the composer’s “pastoral” symphony) at times envelops and soars like a Romantic Cathedral.
