Join NoMi Forest Explorers for the first event in a brand-new, hands-on learning series, made possible through a Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) grant!
This kickoff workshop invites children and families to get their hands dirty as we plant native Michigan seeds indoors and learn what seedlings need to grow and thrive. Using grow lights, seed trays, and other planting tools, participants will begin seedlings that theyβll care for and observe over the coming weeks.
πΏ This is just the beginning.
This event launches a season-long project that will continue through March and into spring and summer with ongoing check-ins, learning sessions, and observations during forest school. Students will track growth, make discoveries, and build a deeper understanding of native plants, local ecosystems, and environmental stewardship.
As the weather warms, the project will culminate in transplanting the seedlings outdoors as part of a community-based native restoration effortβgiving students the chance to see their learning make a real, lasting impact.
This multi-week program fulfills MAEOE grant goals by providing:
β’ Hands-on environmental education
β’ Youth leadership and observation skills
β’ Real-world stewardship experiences
π€ Community Collaboration
This project is made possible through partnerships with Maple Grove Township Community Center (MGTCC), 4-H, and the Kaleva Garden Club, coming together to support meaningful, place-based learning for our community.
Come plant, learn, and grow with usβthis is the first step in something special! π±
