We are excited to welcome Phil Coryell back to Northern Natural, this time with Feral Cats! Phil has played on our stage many times with Barefoot Music, numerous other bands or dropping in to jam during our Open Mic nights!
Phil Coryell moved to Manistee County in 1991, renting a small place on Chief Lake. Phil began sitting in with a band called “The Biggs”. The bass player in this band, John Hefty, called him “PhilHarmonicas”. Since then he's played with The Bihlman Brothers, opening for ZZ Top, and other
blues greats such as Buddy Guy, Jr.Wells, Tommy Castro, John Mayall, and more. Phil joined Lou Thunder and the Rainmakers in the late 1990’s and played together for nearly 20 years, from Grand Marais to Buddy “Guy’s Legends” in Chicago. Wanting to stay more local, and keep his day job teaching for Benzie Schools, he now plays with Barefoot Music and Feral Cats, and with different iterations of Feral Cats Deluxe.
Now retired, he is fortunate to be an active part of the wonderful
music scene in the area.
Singer/songwriter guitarist Monte Klein has been performing since 1973. He has played music in many parts of the United States, Including the West Coast, Texas, Florida, and the Midwest. Overseas, Italy was a favorite place to make music with a diverse cast of Blues and Folk music connections. Monte enjoys playing most all styles of music. He finds engagements as a solo
performer when he is away from the “Feral Cats” duo. Additional musical fun comes in the form of being a “sideman”, and/or band member with The “Manistee All Stars”, and “Big Mont and The Magic Moment", via Marshall, Michigan. As a retired Visual Arts Teacher, there are wonderful connections with many
interesting people; Artists/ Musicians/Educators, and former students. Monte also enjoys playing the Blues Harp, and setting up stringed musical instruments and tube amplifiers for fellow pickers.
