This event is inspired by HRC's "National Day of Reading", which launched in 2015 in response to an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group forcing a school in Wisconsin to cancel plans to read "I am Jazz" in support of a transgender student, and a community that took this book--and their right to read and affirm this student--into their own hands.Since this time, HRC has invited communities nationwide to host public conversations and readings that continue to affirm and uphold gender, racial, ethnic, and social identities, in active resistance to ongoing forces of hate.
