# Event Details - **Event Name**: WOMEN'S INTRO TO SURF PHOTOGRAPHY - **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 06 Feb, 2022 at 09:00 am – Sun, 06 Feb, 2022 at 10:30 am - **Event Description**: Learn how to shoot photos of surfers in the ocean with an underwater housing as well as ocean photography safety practices + techniques!About this EventIn this clinic, we'll start on land with an overview of ocean safety practices and techniques for swimming out into the lineup with a housing. Then, we will make our way out into the water with cameras in small groups and practice shooting different surfers. We will have a safety team with a "rest" area (surfboard to hold onto) so that we can rotate in small groups. WHO IS IT FOR: While this clinic is designed to improve your ocean photography skills and you don't necessarily need to be an experienced photographer, YOU MUST have experience in the ocean and be comfortable taking a wave to the head etc. It is NOT for beginners in the ocean. This is for the safety of ourselves and for others.For this reason, participants must sign a safety waiver releasing the instructors of any liability and confirming you are competent in the ocean. DATE(S): Because this clinic relies on there being waves to photograph surfers, the event will occur for 1 or 2 days depending on the amount of interest THROUGHOUT A DATE RANGE...where we will monitor conditions and notify those who have signed up of what day we plan to go out with a 24-48 hour notice. Right now we are aiming for Feb 6th. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: PART I LANDGear options, how to set up your equipmentReading the water, accessing the lineup and how to position yourselfQ&APART IIstrategies for swimming out, using the channels and duck diving etc.Practice/application: shooting in the water, focusing in the water EQUIPMENT NEEDED/RECOMMENDED: Fins (recommend style/brand: Mask (recommended style/brand:Camera (you can also bring a goPro if you don't shoot with a professional camera)Housing if you have one (we have the ability to provide some housings so contact Aly to see if we have hit capacity with the equipment we are loaning out)If we have reached capacity...but aren't quite ready to get a housing, we recommend looking into: DiCAPac Towel, Reefsafe Sunscreen, snacks/water A thicker swimsuit, spring suit, or wet suit CLASS SIZE LIMITED TO 5-6. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Tatum (Tate) // Tatum grew up on Big Island and always loved making videos for fun growing up! When she was 15 she worked as an assistant for a prominent wedding photography and gradually shifted into a wedding videographer role for the photographer! While she would mess around in the water with her go-pro growing up, she finally got the nerve to bring her professional camera in the water with a housing about 6 years ago and absolutely loved it!
