- **Event Description**: Help us celebrate our first birthday with international touring star from NYC, bebop saxophonist, Greg Abate.About this EventGreg Abate is a saxophonist, flautist and composer who has spent much of the last five decades on the road, touring internationally for a large part of each year. After completing his studies at Berklee College of Music in the mid-1970s, he spent two years playing lead alto with the Ray Charles Orchestra. In 1978 he formed his own group, Channel One, a fixture on the New England scene, before joining the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra under Dick Johnson from 1986 to 1987. Since then he has built a career as a post-hard-bop soloist, appearing at jazz festivals, societies and clubs across the US, Canada, Europe, the UK, and further afield including Moscow and Georgia.His discography runs to more than seventeen albums as leader, beginning with Live at Birdland NYC in 1991 alongside James Williams, Rufus Reid and Kenny Washington. His most recent release, Gratitude, with the Tim Ray Trio, has drawn strong reviews and international airplay. He records for Whaling City Sound and has worked with guests including Phil Woods.Alongside performing, Greg is an adjunct professor of Jazz Studies at Rhode Island College and works as a clinician with Conn-Selmer, running workshops and masterclasses internationally.
