August First Friday at the JACC

The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council presents two new solo exhibits for the month of August 2025: "Art Seeking" by Heather Hintze & "Juneau Echoes" by Liyuan Zhang.

"Art Seeking" is about reconnecting with creativity. We’re all artists as children but as we grow up and focus on school and work, many of us lose the passion to create, either due to lack of time or the stress of life. This exhibit is dedicated to Juneau’s supportive arts community. The pieces in this collection show you don’t have to be a master of your craft; we all start somewhere.

"Juneau Echoes" is a tribute to the five inspiring years Liyuan spent in this magical and beautiful place. Surrounded by wilderness, she and her family often ventured into the nearby landscapes, drawing deep inspiration that gave rise to a series of Juneau-inspired paintings. In this exhibition, besides acrylic landscape paintings, Liyuan uses pyrography, known as wood burning, to bring to life a cast of anthropomorphic, whimsical bears that playfully reflect the everyday rhythms and resilient spirit of Alaskan life.

Join us for an opening reception in the Juneau Arts & Culture Center Gallery from 4-7pm during First Friday. Both exhibits will be on display through August 30.
