Our destination is the historic village of Saghbine, once used by the Byzantines and Romans as a crossroad between the Bekaa and Chouf regions. The area is home to ancient ruins and is beautifully nestled between the eastern slopes of the western mountain chain and the Litani River, in the heart of the Bekaa Valley. The name Saghbine reflects the resilience and strength of its inhabitants. Along the way, we’ll stop at a scenic overlook with breathtaking views of Qaraoun Lake. Our hike begins in Ain Zebde, a charming hilltop village offering panoramic views from Zahle to Jabal el Sheikh, reflected in the calm waters of Qaraoun Lake. We’ll pass by ancient oak trees that have stood tall since Roman times. The hike is moderate, with gentle ascents. Upon arriving in Saghbine, we’ll visit the nearby Ain El Jaouze Monastery, explore the area’s heritage, and taste locally made products. The day continues with a visit to St. Clement, a boutique winery, where we’ll enjoy a guided wine tasting led by passionate winemakers—an immersive experience in local flavors and aromas.
