Khenchara Hike & Wine Tasting – Adventure and Culture in the Metn Region
Overview:
• Organized by Vamos Todos in partnership with the Municipality of Khenchara Al-Jwar.
• The event combines eco-tourism, hiking, cultural exploration, and wine tasting.
• Khenchara Al-Jwar is renowned for its springs, small museums, wineries, and historic churches.
Hike & Cultural Highlights:
• Four scenic trails offer immersion into the village’s rich culture and heritage.
• Start at the Moukarzel Hotel, one of the oldest establishments with panoramic views of Mount Sannine, Jabal el Kneise, and Beirut.
• Trek through pine forests to the main water spring, Ain el Smaydiyye, located next to the first winery.
• Visit the Beit Ayal spring and a grape molasses press near an ancient, unidentified tomb.
• Explore Sheer el Habes ("Prison Cliff"), historically used by the Ottoman Empire for hostages.
• Culminate at the St. Jean Monastery, exploring underground churches and tasting Couvent St. Jean wines.
Optional Extension:
• Add 2.5 km of uphill and downhill trekking to visit a centuries-old water mill.
Closing & Local Delicacies:
• Gather in the village square to savor and purchase Qurban, a local sweet bread specialty.

Randonnée & Dégustation de Vin à Khenchara – Aventure et Culture dans la Région du Metn
Aperçu :
• Organisé par Vamos Todos en partenariat avec la Municipalité de Khenchara Al-Jwar.
• Une journée combinant écotourisme, randonnée, découverte culturelle et dégustation de vin.
• Khenchara Al-Jwar est réputée pour ses sources, petits musées, vignobles et églises historiques.
Points forts de la randonnée et culture :
• Quatre sentiers pittoresques pour découvrir le patrimoine culturel et historique du village.
• Départ depuis le Moukarzel Hotel, l’un des plus anciens établissements, offrant une vue panoramique sur le Mont Sannine, Jabal el Kneise et Beyrouth.
• Randonnée à travers forêts de pins jusqu’à la source principale, Ain el Smaydiyye, près du premier vignoble.
• Visite de la source Beit Ayal et d’un pressoir à mélasse de raisin près d’une tombe ancienne.
• Exploration de Sheer el Habes ("Falaise de la Prison"), utilisée par l’Empire ottoman pour détenir des otages.
• Clôture à Monastère Saint Jean, découverte des églises souterraines et dégustation des vins du Couvent St. Jean.
Extension facultative:
• Ajouter 2,5 km de randonnée avec montées et descentes pour visiter un ancien moulin à eau.
Clôture & spécialités locales:
• Retrouvailles sur la place du village pour déguster et acheter Qurban, pain sucré local traditionnel.
