Baskinta is a Syriac word that means ‘the house of wisdom’. Being surrounded by natural walls (Sannine from the East, Bakish and Marj from the north, Zaarour from the south, and it is open to a valley to the west) made it a geographical fortress.
Baskinta is the birth place of Mikhael Neaime.
Our hike in Baskinta is by far one of the most beautiful. There are countless streams all along the way. With Sannine’s snow melting at this time of year, many streams and rivers are rushing down. You will listen to the running water throughout the hike. The ground is moist and flowers are in full bloom.
We will walk along the literary trail of Baskinta, where many poets and writers have lived and left remarkable works behind them.
What’s on the literary trail?
1) Mikhael Neaime’s mausoleum. Mikhael Neaime was a poet, novelist, and philosopher.
2) Abdallah Ghanem Cutlural Center. Abdallah Ghanem was a poet, philosopher and journalist.
3) Roman inscriptions on rocks.
4) Sayf el Dawla Cave. Sayf el Dawla was an Arab leader who encouraged and protected poets.
5) The old abandoned family house of writer Sleiman Kettaneh.
6) Saidet el Khalleh Church.
7) Mausoleum of Lebanese poet and writer, George Ghanem.
The hike will be LEVEL 5.
We will start the hike together in Chakhroub, where you will see the statue of the great writer, Mikhael Neaime.
Then, we will continue along a dust road, then though the woods, passing by all the literary landmarks stated above. Water streams will not part the trail. You will reach Baskinta village to see the cultural center of Abdallah Ghanem. Here, we will take a break in the village and see the main attractions.
At the end of the hike, we will meet for lunch, where local villagers will prepare a healthy homemade meal.

Baskinta est un mot syriaque qui signifie « la maison de la Sagesse ». Etant entouré de tous côtés par une barrière naturelle : Sannine à l’Est, Bakish et Marj au Nord, Zaarour au Sud et ouvert à l’Ouest sur une vallée, ce lieu est une véritable forteresse.
Baskinta est le village d’origine de Mikaël Neaime.
Notre randonnée à Baskinta est une de nos plus belles randonnées. Le long du chemin, de nombreux ruisseaux. Avec les neiges du Sannine qui fondent en cette période de l’année, des ruisseaux et des rivières ruissellent de partout. Vous entendrez le bruit de l’eau le long de la marche. La terre est humide et les fleurs fleurissent.
Nous marcherons sur le chemin littéraire de Baskinta. De nombreux poètes et écrivains y ont vécu et ont laissé des œuvres remarquables.
Que verrons-nous sur ce chemin littéraire ?
1- Le monument funéraire de Mikaël Neaime qui était poète romancier et philosophe.
2- Le Centre Culturel Abdallah Ghanem. Abdallah Ghanem était un poète, philosophe et journaliste.
3- Des inscriptions de l’époque romaine gravées dans le roc.
4- La grotte de Sayf el Dawla. Sayf el Dawla était un prince arabe qui aidait et protégeait les poètes.
5- La vieille maison familiale abandonnée de Sleiman Kettaneh.
6- L’église de Notre-Dame de Khalleh .
7- Le monument funéraire du poète et écrivain, George Ghanem.
La randonnée sera un seul niveau, le Niveau 5.
Nous commencerons de Chakhroub où on verra la statue du grand écrivain, Mikhaël Neaime.
Nous continuerons ensuite sur un chemin de terre à travers les bois où nous passerons devant tous les sites littéraires du lieu. Les ruisseaux nous accompagneront tout le long du chemin. Nous arrêterons dans le village de Baskinta pour voir le centre culturel d'Abdallah Ghanem. Nous ferons une pause dans le village pour se reposer et découvrir ses principales attractions.
À la fin de la randonnée, les deux niveaux se rencontreront pour le déjeuner chez des villageois qui nous auront préparé un repas sain et fait maison.
