Join your Sunrise to Sunset hiking buddies for a Thanksgiving weekend campout in Joshua Tree National Park. We have reserved Group Camp Areas 2 and 3 at Cottonwood Springs, with covered ramadas, restrooms, picnic tables and fire pits. Parking at these two group camp grounds is available for 25 vehicles. There are no shower facilities in this campground. This is a car camping experience with gear coming out of our vehicles. You will need tent, sleeping bag, mattress, flashlight, camp chair, cook stove, etc., etc. We will be having a potluck dinner both Friday and Saturday nights and potluck breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning. Please bring food to share. BYOBeverage. Please bring two bundles of wood per vehicle for camp fires on Friday and Sunday evenings. Check in at the campground is 12 pm; checkout is 12 pm. Quiet time is 10 pm. Your event hosts will be collecting $10 per person per night to cover the group camp ground reservation fee. Your event hosts will provide plates, utinsels, cups for the potluck breakfasts and dinners.
The campout is intended to facilitate three hikes in the park. These hikes and the campout are separate meetup events that require separate RSVPs.
A Friday afternoon hike to Mastodon Peak and Mine at 2 pm
A Saturday morning hike to Lost Palms Oasis at 9 am
* A Sunday morning hike to 49 Palms Oasis at 10:30 am
All of the above hikes are located in Joshua Tree National Park.
ABOUT JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK: Designated a national monument in 1936, Joshua Tree became a national park in 1994. It includes parts of two deserts, each an ecosystem whose characteristics are determined primarily by elevation: the higher Mojave Desert above 3,000 feet and the lower Colorado Desert. The park contains some of the most interesting geologic displays found in California and of course forests of the the native Joshua Tree.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the 10 Freeway, exit Cottonwood Spring Road (approximately 20 miles past Indio).... travel north seven miles.... turn right into the Cottonwood Visitor Center with restrooms available. The use fee for the Joshua Tree National Park is $30. Although there is no toll gate at the southern entry, the entry fee can be purchased at the Visitor Center. Proceed east on Cottonwood Oasis Road approximately one half mile from the Visitor Center and turn left into the campground entry.
