A year and a half ago when we started this adventure of providing lodging and supplies for hikers. We had no idea what we were doing. Literally the only thing we knew was that there was nothing close to the Appalachian Trail for hikers and that our property is located next to the trail.
Apparently we bought the perfect property for what we are doing. Unknown to us at the time we purchased the property. We are located in the middle of a 60 mile stretch of trail that was known as a “desert” for hiker accommodations and supplies. Time and time again we have heard from hikers that is an absolute perfect location and our servics are needed for hikers.
We requested the Zoning Board Meeting when the announcement was made that the 501 shelter is being torn down at the end of the season. That is when we decided that the time to act is now. Our demand for lodging and supplies is about to increase.
Our goal is to become a “must stop” location for all hikers. We want to provide some “rest for your soles” when you are hiking in the Swatara Gap. Our desire is to help the hiking community for generations to come.
