Shawnee National Forest is calling on passionate volunteers to join the mission of assisting with data collection on Snake Road during the important fall season road closure. As a Snake Road Sentinel, you’ll have the incredible opportunity to observe wildlife and monitor visitor engagement, contributing to meaningful conservation efforts.
This year's workshop is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Mississippi River Bluff Ranger Station, or complete the training online. If you participated in the spring workshop, you're already set for the fall; just communicate with Alyssa to confirm your involvement in this noble endeavor.
At this training you will learn about the vital data collection methods and the vision for the fall season. The workshop will also illuminate previous successes, establish rules, and reinforce ethical guidelines for your role as a Snake Road Sentinel.
Following the workshop, you’ll have the option to visit Snake Road for a brief introduction to this beautiful area. While past volunteers can forgo the field demonstration, all new and returning volunteers must complete the workshop once a year to finalize essential paperwork.
Together, let’s foster a deeper connection with nature and make a lasting impact!
