- **Event Description**: On June 18, 1961, Bob Leberman placed a band on an Indigo Bunting marking Powdermill’s first banding record, and the rest is history. Powdermill Avian Research Center (PARC) has grown into the longest continuously-run, year-round bird banding program in the country, gathering over 860,000 banding records, and facilitating countless avian research projects. 

In this talk, Powdermill’s Bird Banding Program Manager, Dr. Annie Lindsay, will give a photographic tour of the banding lab and share PARC’s exciting past and current research. We’ll discuss the importance of collecting feather, blood, fecal, and ectoparasite samples, discover what secrets statistical analysis can reveal, and learn how PARC contributes to real-world conservation, all accompanied by photos of common, unusual, and beautiful birds.

More about our speaker:  Annie Lindsay, PhD, is the Bird Banding Program Manager at Powdermill Nature Reserve, environmental field station of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, where she runs the long-term bird banding station, conducts avian research, and teaches bird banding classes and workshops. She has traveled around the country and internationally to band birds and study avian ecology and behavior. She is a North American Banding Council certified Bander and Trainer, the President of the Eastern Bird Banding Association, and serves in leadership roles for the North American Banding Council, Pennsylvania Society for Ornithology, 3rd Pennsylvania Bird Atlas, and Black Swamp Bird Observatory. She’s an avid birder and loves sharing birding, banding, and nature with her son, Tommy.
