- **Event Description**: The Petoskey Regional Audubon Society invites you to birding walks at Little Traverse Conservancy’s Waldron Fen Preserve on Saturday mornings during the month of May at 8am.

Spot migratory and resident bird species on this hike throughout a variety of habitats led by trip leader Brooke Knickerbocker – an enthusiastic birder and high school student. This preserve has nearly 2 miles of trails, two small ponds, a viewing platform, and is a sizable wetland-fen complex. Expect this walk to take two to three hours.

We will meet in the dirt parking lot next to the Waldron Fen Nature Preserve sign off Banwell Road (look for the LTC sign). The parking area is unpaved and offers no restroom facilities. Bug spray is strongly encouraged. Trails can be muddy. Proper footwear is a must. The trail is a loop and there is no short-cut back.

The Fen truly is a magical spot with 148 acres. For example, on one morning in May 2025 our small group called 51 species and 137 individual birds. The terrain is uneven, sometimes wet, and bug spray is always recommended. As you can imagine, birds love this kind of habitat; but it’s not for everyone.

Notes: 
RSVP is not necessary to attend the bird walk. Just show up.
Bring binoculars if you have them. If not, loaner pairs will be available.
Beginning birders always welcome.
No pets. No smoking.
Dress for conditions and insect protection.
Directions – From Alanson, head east on M-68 to Banwell Road. Turn right. Continue on Banwell 3.3 miles to entrance on left.
