- **Event Name**: Footprints of a Greyheart
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 20 Dec, 2025 at 02:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Footprints of a Greyheart | Something is happening on the corner. Something is always happening. But on 20 December, what unfolds at 29 Chiswick Street, Brixton, at Lit.Culture/Breezeblock Café will be more than skuif-puff-pass, dali unjani, noma yini bhoza yami. There is nothing wrong with groovin’, we know this. Still, Lit.Culture’s Readin' & Groovin’ season insists that December can also hold thought. It is in this spirit that Footprints of a Greyheart is presented.

The conversation brings together Lesego Rampolokeng and Andrew Tshabangu, drawing from their books, Greyheart and Footprints to consider how text and image carry memory, tension, and the quieter truths that sit beneath the noise of the festive period. The discussion is guided by Brenda Sisane, a seasoned broadcaster and arts and culture practitioner whose work has long traced the contours of South Africa’s creative life.

Even in the supposed quiet of the city during the festive season, there are communities that insist on presence. What appears to be a dead city reveals itself, on closer inspection, as teeming with life. Footprints to Greyheart functions as a set of coordinates, directing us to a place between loss and possibility. A reminder that the future remains unsettled, and that its outcome is not foreclosed.

Rampolokeng and Tshabangu are unreliable chroniclers of history only because history itself cannot be trusted. We turn to them precisely because they have never pretended otherwise. Papa Ramps reminds us that, at the edge of death, birth is treated as sacrilege. If we are indeed living in an age of death, then the will to live becomes an act of refusal. Bra Andrew insists on motion: stasis is the enemy, fugitivity the method. The road must be taken, and the footprints of that journey must remain legible to Black people alone.

Through their work, we are reminded that the present is always slipping away and that the future waits, open to the conditions we are prepared to midwife. The question that lingers is simple and difficult: are we capable of doing that work?

After the conversation, we test whether dancing really is another way of falling. Makhafula Vilakazi, Koketso Poho, Flames Shilowa, Buntu the Ghetto, iSilo seSandi (aka Rez Inyazi), EYEMNOTADJ take us kwanhliziyo ngise through jazz, because music and ideas have never been separate. Something is happening on the corner.
