# Event Details

- **Event Name**: MAGDALENA COLLECTIEF; READING FEMINISM
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 04 May, 2025 at 02:00 pm – Sun, 04 May, 2025 at 05:00 pm
- **Event Description**: As a collective, reading feminist theory together is an important key-stone of our practice. In the philosophy of ‘feminism is a practice you need to keep cultivating’ we’d like to open our reading sessions to anyone interested. We’ve come to realise that reading feminist texts on your own can sometimes feel overwhelming, even triggering or hopeless. That’s why we feel need for a shared space—where we can reflect together on these often difficult topics, support one another and deepen our collective understanding. Together and out loud, we read influential, fresh and pioneering non-fiction on intersectional feminism.

WHEN? & WHERE
Sunday 04/05 and Sunday 01/06, 14h-17h (estimated)
at the lovely Villa of Canapé, in Laeken (Brussels)

HOW TO SIGN UP?
It’s completely free, but fill in the google forms! We will send you the text in advance if you leave your e-mail adress.

WHAT ARE WE READING?
04/05 we’ll read an excerpt from Living A Feminist Life/ The Killjoy Manifesto by Sara Ahmed
01/06 we’ll read an exercpt from Sexual Revolution by Laurie Penny

The texts will be read in English, the conversation that flows from it will either be in Dutch or in English, depending on the group we are in.

Note 1: if you don’t feel comfortable reading out loud, don’t worry, just tell us! You can listen :)

Note 2: these texts are (rather) accessible in language, but often work around harsh topics. We’ll do our best to provide the care people need, tell us if you need anything specific, you’re always free to leave or grab some air.

ABOUT MAGDALENA COLLECTIEF
The feminist mind-and-make Magdalena Collective consists of Musia Mwankumi, Abigail Gypens, Madonna Lenaert and Maria Magdalena de Cort. They earned their masters in Drama together at KASK in 2023 with the performance “Do you love her?”. They also worked together in 2021 on their undergraduate thesis ‘ZOUT,’ whose soundtrack was released by Hoffman in 2022 as 'Salt for Magdalene.' In 2021, they mounted the project ‘Pubic Property’: a playful call for men to donate their pubic hair, which was used to create a visual work. They also moderate group discussions about patriarchy and what masculinity means, between men. As a group, they seek togetherness through feminism, ecology, queerness and anti-racism.
