Etter at festival-programmet til Global Gathering Festival er ferdig i Romsaasparken runder vi av med en konsert på Tunet bar på Sundbytunet med irsk og skotsk tradisjonsmusikk.

Matt Kidd og Kristian Dugstad møttes gjennom folkemusikkmiljøet i Norge våren 2026 og oppdaget raskt en felles kjærlighet til irsk og skotsk tradisjonsmusikk. Selv om de bare har spilt sammen en kort stund, har de allerede funnet en god musikalsk kjemi og stor glede i å utforske repertoaret fra begge sider av Nordsjøen.

Matt kommer fra Glasgow, hjertet av Skottlands moderne tradisjonsmusikkmiljø. Han spiller fele, fløyter og sekkepipe, og har opptrådt med en rekke tradisjonsband i Skottland, Kina og andre steder i verden, blant annet National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland. Under oppholdet i Shanghai grunnla han byens første pipeband for ungdom før veien til slutt førte ham til Norge. Etter å ha syklet Norge på langs i 2025, valgte han å gjøre landet til sitt nye hjem, og året etter flyttet han hit. I dag bor han i Fredrikstad og arbeider som musikklærer ved International School.

Kristian begynte å spille med det irske folkbandet Plastic Paddies som tenåring i 2010. Et musikksamarbeid med East Clare Young Musicians i County Clare førte til varige vennskap i det irske tradisjonsmusikkmiljøet og senere til medlemskap i det irskbaserte tradbandet The Boxty Gang. Gjennom årene har han spilt konserter i Irland, Skottland, Frankrike, Italia og Norge, samtidig som han har vært aktiv med Plastic Paddies, The Red Squirrel og andre prosjekter.

Sammen byr Matt og Kristian på et variert utvalg av sanger og melodier fra Irland, Skottland og videre ut i den keltiske musikktradisjonen. Med fele, fløyter, sekkepiper, gitar og sang kombinerer de tradisjonelt stoff med spilleglede, spontanitet og musikalske impulser fra begge land.

After the Global Gathering Festival program concludes in Romsaasparken, we will round off the day with a concert at Tunet bar at Sundbytunet featuring traditional Irish and Scottish music.

Matt Kidd and Kristian Dugstad met through Norway’s folk music community in the spring of 2026 and quickly discovered a shared passion for Irish and Scottish traditional music. Although they have only been playing together for a short time, they have already developed a strong musical connection and great enjoyment in exploring repertoire from both sides of the North Sea.

Matt comes from Glasgow, the heart of Scotland’s modern traditional music scene. He plays fiddle, flute, and bagpipes, and has performed with a variety of traditional bands in Scotland, China, and elsewhere around the world, including the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland. During his time in Shanghai, he founded the city’s first youth pipe band before his journey ultimately led him to Norway. After cycling the length of Norway in 2025, he decided to make the country his new home, and moved here the following year. Today, he lives in Fredrikstad and works as a music teacher at the International School.

Kristian began performing with the Irish folk band Plastic Paddies as a teenager in 2010. A musical collaboration with East Clare Young Musicians in County Clare led to lasting friendships within the Irish traditional music community and later to membership in the Ireland-based trad band The Boxty Gang. Over the years, he has performed in Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, and Norway, while remaining active with Plastic Paddies, The Red Squirrel, and other musical projects.

Together, Matt and Kristian present a varied selection of songs and tunes from Ireland, Scotland, and the wider Celtic musical tradition. With fiddle, flutes, bagpipes, guitar, and vocals, they combine traditional repertoire with musical joy, spontaneity, and influences from both countries.
