They perform their own original music described as good-time, upbeat rock jams with a twist of funk and soul, gravelly-toned vocals over plenty of wah-wah soaked guitar, cool bass lines, keys, and harmonica. Recent shows at the Blue Note demonstrate their capacity to engage an audience and get feet moving with their quirky grooves, immersive sound and crafted original material. BENNY THE MOTH - 9.30pm Benny the Moth are an original 4 piece band from Jersey, Channel Islands, known for their "genre-defying" sound that combines elements of rock, reggae, punk, soul and hip hop. Formed in Gorey Village they have been active for over 2 decades and have become staples of the Channel Islands music scene with regular appearances at festivals like Jersey Live, The Weekender, Reasons and the Vale Earth Fair sharing a stage with the like of The Fratellis, Razorlight, The Skints and Gerry Cinnamon in addition to playing support slots with legendary acts The Delays, Dodgy and UB40. A genre-bending, energetic, positive sound that that defies categorization but offers a vibrant mix of styles together highlights their originality, tight live performances and ability to create unique, fresh music that's both fun and meaningful. Critics have praised the band for their high-energy performances and unique musical "melting pot" with EARMILK describing their sound as a "delectably delicious new wave genre" that is "fresh, vibrant, and beyond exciting," noting it as a brand of "genreless music for the masses" that's "breaking down barriers, defying expectations, and creating a sound that's uniquely their own". BBC Introducing Reviewer Tommy Girard noted their sound is delivered with a "real sense of feeling and energy" drawing comparisons to The Clash and Gorillaz. RGM: Highlighted the addition of instruments like the saxophone in their single 'No War' created a "one of a kind, stand out anthem of epic proportions". They have released 3 albums, 2 x CD LPs 'Benny The Moth & The Erogenous Zones' (2008) and 'Ten' (2012) before 2020s digital release 'Life Amongst Plants & Fungi'. In 2022 they signed to local label Bubblebrain Records releasing their first single 'No War' followed by the 4 track 'Rise & Fall' EP and 'Flavour of 95' as a single in 2023. Headline shows in Southampton and Brighton followed by a support slot with 90s legends Dodgy in Guernsey capped off a great year before the band returned to play The Weekender Festival in Jersey. Playing a near brand new set in 2025 they are currently in the process of demoing new songs for their next release which due out in 2026.
