Popp studierte Jazzschlagzeug in München und bewegt sich mit seiner Soloarbeit und Projekten wie ‚Fazer‘, ‚9ms‘, ‚Poeji‘ und ‚Polygonia & Simon Popp‘ an den Schnittstellen von Jazz, Ambient und elektronischer Musik. Seine Solo-Alben ‚Laya‘, ‚Devi‘ und ‚Blizz‘ fanden international, besonders in der Vinyl-Szene, großen Anklang. So lobte The Line Of Best Fit: „this is music you can get totally lost in, where the lines between organic and electric are blurred so as to be indistinguishable“. Neben Anerkennung von Magazinen wie Clash, Juno und Ransom Note fühlte sich Bleep an die Musik der experimentellen Größen Philip Glass und Steve Reich erinnert. 2023 wurde Simon Popp mit dem Förderpreis für Musik der Landeshauptstadt München ausgezeichnet. 2025 wurde er für den Deutschen Jazzpreis nominiert.
