- **Event Description**: Celebrate Earth Day at Jemez Historic Site in Jemez Springs, New Mexico, on Saturday, April 18, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. We'll offer a variety of fun activities including a hike, traditional children’s games, an “artifact” dig, pottery demonstrations, bread baking in the horno, and Native arts and crafts vendors.

From 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Instructional Coordinator Marlon Magdalena and Ranger Casey Coty will lead a 3.2-mile hike to Oak Canyon (a.k.a. Church Canyon) and stop at different points along the trail to discuss interesting topics like native plants, birds, and animals. This is a moderate hike over rough terrain (approximately 3.2 miles, Elevation 6300-7080)—hikers should bring water, sturdy shoes, sunscreen and a sack lunch. The hike will begin at the Visitor Center.

Ranger Brenda Tafoya will lead a pottery demonstration, offering visitors a chance to get hands-on and make their own pottery. Visitors will also be able to paint pottery, including a flowerpot, with a plant to take home.

The Friends of Coronado and Jemez Historic Sites are hosting their Customer Appreciation Day during the Earth Day event so, stop by for free beverages, hot dogs, and delicious homemade Frito pies!

All activities are included with regular admission of $7 for adults and free to children 16 years and younger, Tribal members, NM disabled veterans, and NM foster families.
