# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Watson Farm Walking Tours
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 23 Aug, 2025 at 01:00 pm – Sat, 23 Aug, 2025 at 04:00 pm
- **Event Description**: On a self-guided walking tour of Watson Farm, visitors can explore farm fields with grazing livestock, stroll along the shore, and view seasonal farm activities. For millennia, Indigenous people lived well on Conanicut Island, using controlled burning to clear the land for hunting and cultivation. European colonists sought the resulting grasslands for their animals. After 1657, the land was owned by three governors and worked by enslaved people and tenant farmers. In 1789, Job Watson purchased the farm that would be passed down through five generations. Today, this 265-acre working farm is managed using innovative, sustainable practices that continue the tradition of pastoral husbandry.

We recommend planning at least 90 minutes for your visit. Please leave all pets at home, but bring your hat, comfortable walking shoes, and friends.

Get tickets online, or in person, but either way check in with the guide in the barn to get an orientation and your walking tour map. See guide for discounted admissions for NARM, active military, and more.
