About the event

JCT Auditions: Wizard of Oz
Jamestown Community Theatre is excited to announce auditions for The Wizard of Oz on Sunday, January 4!

The Wizard of Oz is returning to Jamestown! Last performed in 2011, we're excited to bring back this classic show to the stage. Based off the book written by L. Frank Baum with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, this version of the show most closely follows the movie of the same name starring Judy Garland. Those familiar with the movie, should note that there are some subtle differences in the show, but that all of your favorite songs are there, plus more!

Auditions are open to anyone in Grade 2 and up! While there are many singing roles available, there are some opportunities for Non-Singing Roles. Please see more information regarding auditions and roles below. *Actors interested in the roles of Aunt Em and Uncle Henry can audition in any of the following three groups.

1pm - Auditions for those interested in being a part of the ensemble or a small solo or feature. Everyone coming at this time will be asked to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. We will teach this song in groups for anyone unfamiliar, and then have people sing in small groups. If anyone wants to sing solo, there will be an opportunity for that as well. While registrations are preferred, we will also take walkins at the 1pm time slot. This is open to anyone Grade 2+, including Teens and Adults!

1:45pm - Anyone looking to audition for a lead singing role. Everyone coming to this audition will be asked to sing a song based on the role(s) you are looking to audition for. Even if you are not sure what role you’d be interested in, but know that you’d like to have a larger part (Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman, Lion, Glinda) this is the time slot for you! The role of Dorothy is open to those aged 12+ and the other lead roles are open to those aged 15+.

2:30pm - Anyone looking for a Speaking (non-singing) role. Everyone coming to this audition will be provided with a side based on the role(s) you are looking to audition for. The two non-singing roles are the Almira Gultch/Wicked Witch of the West and Professor Marvel/The Wizard.

3pm - Callbacks will begin for anyone we’d like to see a little more from. As always being called back or not being called back does not mean you do or do not have a chance at a lead or the part you are interested in. It just means we’d like to see a little more from you that we weren’t able to see with the initial audition. Callbacks will include some readings and singing. While there is dancing in this show, dance will not be a part of the auditions.

If you are unable to attend these auditions, please let us know and alternative arrangements can be made.

Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 6-9pm and Sundays from 1-5pm. Performances will be held Thursday, March 12 - Sunday, March 15. Please note that not everyone will be needed for every rehearsal. Ensemble members and those with cameo/feature roles will typically rehearse 1-2x per week. Those with lead/principal roles will generally rehearse 2-3x per week.

All participants will be required to register and pay a $25 membership fee upon casting - this membership fee is a one time fee per season and will cover the entire 25-26 season. Anyone requiring assistance with this fee may email: amN0MDI4MzUgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ==.

Actors will be required to provide their own base costumes, often drawing from the home wardrobe & footwear. Additionally, parents/guardians of children 17 and under will be asked to volunteer in one or more ways, such as taking turns providing young actor help during rehearsals and performances, helping with sets, costumes, or props, etc. more information regarding this will go out with casting and the schedule once auditions are over.

Everyone interested in auditioning for The Wizard of Oz should email SkNUMDI4MzUgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ== to register for a time slot, subject line: Wizard of Oz - Auditions. Your email should include your Name, grade (if applicable), and role(s) interested in.

Please let us know if you have any questions! We look forward to seeing you at auditions!
