Yabás—Divine Feminine Forces is a ritualized experimental dance performance that weaves African and Indigenous spiritual wisdom in participatory movement and multisensory arts. Led by Brazilian master dancer and choreographer Isaura Oliveira, Yabás invites audiences to dive into nature and art to emerge into themselves.
The evening transforms the Strand into a site of elemental, interactive encounters. Dance, music, spoken word, herbalists, tactile art, sound baths, and more thread together across a series of stations inspired by the yabás, divine feminine spiritual powers of the orixas—natural elements and deities found in candomblé, a syncretism of Yoruba and Indigenous roots in a Brazilian context. Together, these inspired Mestra Isaura & Power of Skirts to dive into the four elements (earth, air, fire, and water) and the five senses (sight, smell, touch, hearing, and taste) for the ritual experimental performance Yabás.
