This gap in care is particularly troubling considering the overwhelming data supporting early and safe mobility in other post-surgical populations and efforts to promote continuity in care after hospital discharge in these patient populations. This continuity includes home health or outpatient rehabilitation, remote monitoring, and/or post-operative clinic visits within days or weeks following hospital discharge. Except for serious medical complications requiring emergent care, the earliest clinic visit for new mothers is 6 weeks following delivery. This presentation will provide the evidence supporting early, hospital-based acute rehabilitation following childbirth and explore the steps and stakeholders needed to develop such programs across the maternal care continuum.
