- **Event Description**: A journey along the Sterling Ditch Mine Trail is like a show and tell through the renowned forest and plant diversity of the Klamath Mountains’ Siskiyou Range. The trail is designated by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). Our walk will take us through oak woodlands, mixed-conifer forests, grasslands, buck-brush chaparral, and a profusion of spring Siskiyou wildflowers. 

Instructor Biography:
Rachel Werling is a professional botanist and the immediate past president of the Siskiyou Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon. For nine years, she served as faculty coordinator for the OSU Land Steward Program, during which time she led plant walks and created a variety of educational materials and workshops. She also coordinated the Oregon Master Naturalist Program, Klamath Siskiyou Ecoregion, for OSU Extension.

The first-quarter mile is relatively steep but just a 200-foot elevation gain. Be sure you are sufficiently fit to complete a 4-mile hike on rolling terrain.

Cost: $15 per person or sliding scale fee
