- **Event Description**: Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council (SPAR) is hosting one of its Historic Springfield TreeWalks focused on Native Florida Flora & Urban Biodiversity, an engaging walking tour exploring the diverse plant life that supports healthy urban ecosystems.
During this outdoor program, participants will walk through the historic streets of Springfield while learning how native plants contribute to pollinator habitat, wildlife support, water conservation, and long-term ecological resilience. Led by ethnobotanist, farmer, and educator Andrew Gerren, the tour introduces participants to native and adapted plant species commonly found in urban landscapes and explains how thoughtful plant selection can strengthen biodiversity in city environments.
Along the route, attendees will encounter notable plant specimens while learning how ecological function, soil health, and climate conditions influence successful plant communities. Participants will also explore the cultural relationships people have long had with plants, including their historical uses in food systems, herbal traditions, and land stewardship practices.
Whether you are a gardener, nature enthusiast, or simply curious about the plants growing around you, this walking tour offers a fascinating look at how native flora can help build healthier and more resilient neighborhoods.

Each of these 4 tours will feature ASL interpretation.
