Diaspora Rooted is not your average Juneteenth celebration—it’s an immersive cultural experience designed to awaken your senses, deepen your connection to the diaspora, and invite you into joy.
We begin the evening with a Mini Diaspora Food Tour—a curated tasting experience across three rooms, each representing a region of the Black diaspora: West Africa, the Caribbean, and the American South. As you move from room to room, you’ll sample small bites lovingly prepared by local chefs who will share the deeper story behind each dish—how these foods connect us to our ancestors, our migrations, and our fight for freedom.
Next, we gather for a short film screening and cultural conversation, where we reflect on diasporic identity, storytelling, and what it means to reclaim our narratives through art and food. Featured guests like Jamaican filmmaker Mikey T. Campbell and culinary activist Peter Ivey will join us for this powerful dialogue.
Then we open the space for what we do best—celebration.
The rest of the night is dedicated to dancing, laughter, and connection as we move to the sounds of the African, Caribbean, and Southern diasporas. Afrobeat, soca, dancehall, soul, trap, and southern anthems will fill the space as we honor the freedom our ancestors fought for with joy in our bodies.
This is a night to taste, witness, remember, and move.
