Here are the details for our upcoming photowalk this Saturday (8/22) at the Jackson Civil War Reenactment.

Schedule Highlights (The reenactment runs all day but here are a couple of key times):

2:00 PM: Main Reenactment Battle

7:00 PM: Period Dance

Parking & Logistics

Parking: Just follow the signs as you near the park

Meeting Point: There's a gazebo/picnic shelter along the walkway just in front of the pond. We can plan to meet there. 
Transportation: There is no official carpool arranged, so please plan your own travel to the venue.

Food & Refreshments: Food trucks are usually available on site for lunch, but packing extra water and quick snacks is recommended.

What to Bring 

Essentials: 

Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and wear comfortable walking shoes. 

Earplugs are not a bad idea when around cannons either. 

Lens Recommendations:

I usually bring my 40mm along with a 70-200mm 

I've found that a super-telephoto (like a 200-600mm) is a bit overkill for this stuff. Not that you can't use it, but that gets heavy fast.

Other Notes

Talk to People! This event has been running since 1986, and that kind of longevity only happens because the reenactors are very passionate about what they do. So engage with them and ask them questions!

Respect Their Space: Please remember that the tents in the encampment are these folks actual living quarters for the weekend, so be mindful and respectful when shooting around the camp setups.

Weather: The forecast is calling for thunderstorms in the afternoon.We will have to keep an eye on that. 

Photo Contest: I haven't seen any official announcements about a photo contest online yet for this year, so keep an eye out for signs/flyers once we're onsite.
