Pour sa carte blanche, la saxophoniste Elly Brouckmans élargit son groupe Mania – composé de Yarno Hoedemaekers (piano), Toon Rumen (contrebasse) et Umberto Odone (batterie) – en y intégrant trois voix uniques issues de la scène jazz bruxelloise.
À partir d’une quête introspective d’harmonie et de timbre, elle a découvert l’année dernière la musique des impressionnistes français. Inspirée par leur univers sonore, elle s’est mise en quête de moyens d’entremêler cette texture avec son propre langage musical.
Le résultat est l’élargissement de son quartet habituel avec les chanteuses Hsuan-Hui Fang, Marta Frigo et Caro Verheyen, qui se produiront ensemble en trio vocal.
Ainsi, deux univers apparemment disparates se rencontrent, créant un espace propice tant au contraste qu’à la fusion. L’ensemble est baptisé The Sweet Suite : un arc musical composé de couleurs impressionnistes, de rythmes ludiques et de mélodies stratifiées.

Saxofoniste Elly Brouckmans breidt voor haar carte blanche haar band Mania – met Yarno Hoedemaekers (piano), Toon Rumen (contrabas) en Umberto Odone (drums) - uit met drie unieke stemmen uit de Brusselse jazzscene. Vanuit een introspectieve zoektocht naar harmonie en klankkleur ontdekte ze vorig jaar de muziek van de Franse impressionisten.
Geïnspireerd door hun klankwereld ging ze op zoek naar manieren om deze textuur te verweven met haar eigen muzikale taal. Het resultaat is de uitbreiding van haar vaste kwartet met vocalisten Hsuan-Hui Fang, Marta Frigo en Caro Verheyen, die samen zullen optreden als driestemmig koor.
Zo ontmoeten twee ogenschijnlijk uiteenlopende werelden elkaar en ontstaat ruimte voor zowel contrast als versmelting. Het geheel wordt gedoopt tot The Sweet Suite : een muzikale boog bestaande uit impressionistische kleuren, speelse ritmes en gelaagde melodieën. For her carte blanche, saxophonist Elly Brouckmans is expanding her band Mania – featuring Yarno Hoedemaekers (piano), Toon Rumen (double bass) and Umberto Odone (drums) – with three unique voices from the Brussels jazz scene. Following an introspective quest for harmony and timbre, she discovered the music of the French Impressionists last year.
Inspired by their soundscape, she sought ways to weave this texture into her own musical language. The result is the expansion of her regular quartet to include vocalists Hsuan-Hui Fang, Marta Frigo and Caro Verheyen, who will perform together as a three-part choir.
In this way, two seemingly disparate worlds meet, creating space for both contrast and fusion. The whole is christened The Sweet Suite : a musical arc consisting of impressionistic colours, playful rhythms and layered melodies. Expect the grooves and interplay of Mania, this time enveloped in a layer of tenderness.
