Join us for our next ARCI Cineforum as we screen “About last year”, a documentary about discovery, self-determination and growth for anyone questioning the boundaries society has drawn around them.
🎥 Celeste, Giorgia, and Letizia are part of the ballroom scene, an LGBTQ subculture in which performative practices represent a safe space for meeting and exchange within the queer community. Although they are cisgender, through ballroom the three women find the opportunity to express their bodies free from judgment and prejudice, allowing them to grow and to make the most important choices for themselves: whether to remain in the suburbs of Turin or to leave.
🎥 This documentary portrays the ballroom world as a space of transition, growth, and self-determination for anyone who wishes to explore the boundaries of their own behaviours, often shaped (and distorted) by gender stereotypes. The perspective is unusual even for those who are deeply familiar with the subculture at the centre of the film, as it finds new ways of investigating it, even at the cost of dissonance, but with the collective gain of dialogue and dialectics, framed by the pursuit of happiness of three dreamer women.
🗣️After the screening, we’ll open the floor for discussion with the directors (online).
Let's celebrate the courage it takes to be yourself. See you there ✨
