- **Event Name**: Jacob Ertl Piano Recital
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 11 Apr, 2026 at 05:00 pm (-05:00)
- **Event Description**: We are excited to host pianist Jacob Ertl for a recital on April 11. Free and open to the public. Downstairs at Opus.

The recital program is titled "The Dawn of Modernism at the Turn of the Century," and features pieces by Lili Boulanger, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Karen Tanaka, and George Gershwin. This program explores how composers from different backgrounds engaged with the rapidly changing world at the turn of the 20th century. Boulanger's introspection, Ravel's coloristic experimentation, and Rachmaninoff's emotional depth, all reflect the cultural shifts and personal tensions that defined the era. Tanaka's work, in a sense, looks forward to a world where sound, rhythm, and emotion are reshaped by the forces of technology and globalization. The recital concludes with Gershwin's Embraceable You, a moment of reflection on how the past and future seamlessly coexist in the music of today.

Pianist Jacob Ertl has performed extensively in the United States and throughout Europe, Asia, Central America, and the Middle East. Highlights include solo recital debuts at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, and Chicago radio's "Live from WFMT" concert series.
