Newman Arboretum Sculpture Garden beneath angular cement behemoths and a tree that evolved with mammoths! Wind and wander through a series of outdoor rooms as we delight in a summer display of shrubs and day lilies. Follow a seasonal stream bordered with wooded perennial garden beds sharing the spotlight with cinnamon-colored maples and a gnarled willow. Snatch a peek at Arboretum history as we pass remnants of an old nursery and close our loop with views of the ponds.This 90-minute tour will be conducted on foot through flat, grassy expanses. It requires walking down one flight of paved stairs with a handrail and up a very short, paved section of road. Plan for one mile of slow walking, wear comfortable shoes, and consider bringing insect repellent, a hat, rain gear, if needed, and water. This is a rain or shine tour. Pre-registration required as space is limited.Fee: $12 general admission; Free for Cornell Botanic Gardens Access Pass holders and Cornell Students.Instructor: Teresa Craighead, Cornell Botanic Gardens Docent, Master GardenerLocation: Meet at the parking area next to Houston Pond and the Sculpture Garden, in the central part of the Arboretum.
