Join us at the Museum of the Earth for activities for all ages, including opportunities to handle modern and fossil mollusk shells, create mollusk-themed crafts, and learn how these remarkable animals have evolved over hundreds of millions of years.

At noon, enjoy a special talk by snail biologist Rebecca Rundell, Associate Professor of Environmental Biology and President of the American Malacological Society. In her talk, “Pretty and weird shells in action: Wild molluscs and how they got that way,” Rebecca will explore how mollusk shells function in real habitats and what they reveal about evolution.

Throughout the day, visitors can also participate in Fossil ID Day—bring in a rock or fossil you’ve found and have it examined by Museum of the Earth scientist Dr. Maureen Bickley, who will be working in the Prep Lab and happy to help identify your discoveries.

All activities are included with regular Museum admission. 

Schedule of Activities:

10am - 1pm - Activities for all ages, including opportunities to handle modern and fossil mollusk shells and do mollusk-themed crafts

10am-5pm - Fossil ID Day - Did you find a rock in your backyard? Do you think it might be a fossil? Museum of the Earth is here to help! Dr. Maureen Bickley will be working in the Prep Lab on Saturdays and is happy to assist you.
