What to expect
Sema Ceremony
The Sema is the sacred ritual of the Mevlevi Order, symbolizing a dervish’s spiritual ascent toward “perfection” through devotion, music, and dance. Recognized by UNESCO, it blends centuries-old tradition with deeply symbolic choreography and live Sufi compositions.
Features
Introduction Video (5 min): A brief visual overview explaining the ritual’s origins and the philosophy behind the Mevlevi path.
Sufi Music Concert (10 min): Performed live with traditional instruments, this segment sets the spiritual tone and introduces key motifs of Mevlevi music.
Whirling Ritual (45 min): The main ceremony where dervishes rotate in continuous motion, representing the journey from the earthly realm to divine love.
