The course is organized by HeritageForAll initiative and Al Fawz Management Training Center to benefit professionals working at the heritage sites and historic buildings-based museums around the world. This course is a follow up to three successful courses on “Management of Historical Buildings” organized and implemented along the last two years.

HeritageForAll Initiative mainly focuses on the heritage and/or museum management and conservation. It shares up-to-date aspects in relation to heritage conservation, site management, and museology with the young professional within its virtual platform as well as a group of capacity building activities. These activities are often opened to all interested people from all educational backgrounds and from various age groups as well. In the future, it is going to be a consultation entity for the heritage sites and museums presenting the applicable recommendations and suggestions. It seeks to raise awareness of the local community for their cultural heritage.

BACKGROUND

The course is organized by HeritageForAll initiative and Al Fawz Management Training Center to benefit professionals working at the heritage sites and historic buildings-based museums around the world. This course is a follow up to three successful courses on “Management of Historical Buildings” organized and implemented along the last two years.

THE COURSE

According to the quote of the former UNESCO D.G. Ms. Irina Bokova, "Cultural sites have a universal value - they belong to all and must be protected by all. We are not just talking about stones and buildings. We are talking about values, identities, and belonging." Therefore, the heritage sites, either cultural or natural properties, were inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage List has a great significant to ensure the quality of an effective sustainable development process.
The course aims to provide participants with up-to-date approaches to the management of cultural heritage sites, focusing particularly on the interrelation between the heritage site and the visitor. Course contents are currently being developed and will include the following themes:
1. The main world heritage conventions
2. The identification of Outstanding Universal Values of the heritage site
3. The management of the heritage sites
4. Intro. to visitor management
5. Intro. to heritage interpretation

METHODOLOGY

The course will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. The course comprises an intensive programme combining lectures, self-assessment; case study; field trip, and group work. High-level interaction is encouraged in the course with participants playing an important role.

PARTICIPANTS

The course is designed for 30 participants. They shouldn’t be advanced professionals engaged in heritage conservation and management projects, preferably working in or graduating from the following specifications: archaeology, heritage preservation, historical building-based museum curation, cultural tourism, and historic architecture; or also studying the following fields: heritage studies, museum studies, architecture, urban planning, fine arts, antiquities, history and tourism.

COURSE FEE

The course fee is 600 Euro. Participants will be responsible for their round trip travel costs to and from Istanbul, Turkey and accommodation. Fee includes:
1- the participation fees
2- Lunch break
3- Field trip [Transportation & Admission]

APPLICATION DEADLINE

You can just register till 20th January 2019. Due on 24th January 2019, you should confirm the course registration and pay 100% of the course fees. Applications must be completed by 30 Jan. 2019.
