ISB Readers' Club Jun '19 meet
Our fiction book pick is Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina.
The Islamabad Readers' Club is on hiatus for Ramzan and Eid break. Our next meeting will be in June.
Considered one of the greatest novels of all time, Anna Karenina is an epic tale of love and self-destruction set against rapid social and political reforms in 19th Century Russia. When Anna Karenina, the wife of a Russian government official, rejects her passionless marriage for an affair with cavalry officer Vronsky, she is rebelling against the strict norms of Russian society. Will the lovers find respite and happiness or will their romance end in tragedy? It will be interesting to discuss how relevant the novel's themes and Anna's fate are to our present reality.
The classic novel should be available in most book stores. We are reading the Richard Pevear-Larissa Volokhonsky translation but you're welcome to pick any of the older translations.
The meeting details are:
Day/Date: Wednesday, 26 June 2019
