# Event Details - **Event Name**: Santa Fe Dam BioBlitz - **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 10 Apr, 2026 at 09:00 am – Fri, 10 Apr, 2026 at 12:00 pm (-07:00) - **Event Description**: Join us in a community science project to collect and record biodiversity data and support conservation in this increasingly rare habitat.About this EventThis volunteer bioblitz, in the large natural area of the Santa Fe Dam, L.A. County Park, will survey the area and record all observed species of plants and other organisms. The documentation of the existing species will contribute to plans for preservation of this coastal sage scrub and alluvial scrub habitats, as well as the riparian woodlands that comprise this landscape. Various plant species occur here that are difficult to find and fairly unique in L.A. County. The habitat supports rare bird and herp species, as well. Also noteworthy are several burned patches of land in various stages of fire recovery. This bioblitz will be led by L.A. County Biologist Cristhian Mace and CNPS's Gabi McLean and is a joint activity of the California Native Plant Society and L.A. County Parks and Recreation.Special Note: We will make individual macro lenses with fill lights available to registered participants, for the duration of the bioblitz. Those lenses attach to individual smart phones and make macro photography – and detail plant identification - possible with your standard mobile phone.Shorter and longer attendance may be accommodated.Meet: In the parking lot of the Nature Center at Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area (drive north once you pass the entrance kiosk, follow the signs). Please note that the Eventbrite Google Maps directions DOES NOT take you to the Nature Center and that Google maps can get the directions wrong; the only park entrance is from Arrow Hwy.Entrance Fee: As you are volunteering your time to help the park, the entrance fee will be waived for registered participants.
